28th June – 09th July 2021
The 2021 edition of the Competition Summer Schools took place online and was organised in cooperation with the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium. This year’s programmes kicked off on 28 June, until 9 July 2021 and gathered virtually officials from the ASEAN Member States, China, India and Korea.
The Rector of the College of Europe, Ms Federica Mogherini, welcomed the participants and officially opened the first online edition of the Competition Summer School.
On 28 June, participants from all the partner countries joined for a virtual visit to the European Commission Directorate-General for Competition. Mr Olivier Guersent, Director General of DG Competition, opened the virtual visit welcoming the participants. Commission officials introduced their counterparts to the work of DG Competition.
The Competition Summer School is designed to combine lectures, workshops, analysis of cases and meetings with officials from the Commission’s DG Competition. Common training sessions will alternate with sessions tailored to the different jurisdictions. Leading academics, officials and practitioners deliver lectures on a wide range of topics, including the objectives and instruments of EU competition law, vertical and horizontal restraints, economics of competition law, mergers and acquisitions, public and privileged undertakings, abuse of dominance, state aid control, the EU anti-trust procedure and the impact of the digital economy. The lectures combine theory with practical experience in the form of recent cases and examples, which will encourage problem solving, comparative analysis and class discussion.
